The University of New England (UNE) is seeking dynamic, visionary candidates to serve as Director in a recently reimagined School of Education (SOE) that unifies UNE's education programs, including our undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral opportunities, into a single academic unit shared between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Professional Studies. The combined School will offer undergraduate majors in Art Education, Community Education, Elementary Education with Certification, Middle and Secondary Education with Certification, and Special Education, as well as minors in Education and Special Education. The School will offer a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, Post-Master's Certificate, Master of Science in Education, and Doctor of Education.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking leader to redefine the School's future through strategic visioning and innovative program development. The Director will be instrumental in crafting and implementing innovative curricula, enhancing the diversity and reach of academic programs, and driving growth in student enrollment. In addition to program development, the Director will lead efforts to recruit and mentor outstanding faculty, cultivate a collaborative and inclusive academic culture, and champion faculty excellence in teaching, research, and service. This role offers a comprehensive 12-month appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or Teaching Professor. The successful candidate will start at UNE no later than July 2026.
Responsibilities
The Director will be responsible for articulating and implementing a vision focused on growth, academic excellence, and innovation, grounded in data, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to stakeholder success. The Director will supervise and mentor all faculty and professional staff within the School and lead strategic initiatives related to program development, recruitment, academic advising, retention, and assessment.
Qualifications
The next Director should, at a minimum, possess a master's degree in education or a related field, be familiar with in-person and online modalities, and have a record of success in leadership and administration. We are especially welcoming candidates with experience as a principal or superintendent. The successful candidate should have experience with and the ability to teach in the middle/secondary program as well as other courses.
