Position Summary:

The Director of the Teaching and Learning Center will lead initiatives to enhance teaching effectiveness, promote innovative instructional practices, and support faculty professional development at AUPP. The Director will also oversee student learning support and collaborate with academic departments, administrative units, and external partners to maintain high standards of teaching and learning across the university.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Teaching and Learning Center aligned with the university's mission and goals.
  • Design and deliver a portfolio of programmes (including postgraduate certificates aimed at both teachers in higher education and schools and commercial English programmes for public and private sector organisations) workshops, and seminars, and other professional development opportunities to support faculty in enhancing their teaching skills, incorporating technology into the classroom, and implementing evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Familiarity with Advance HE and the Professional Standards Framework (2023) and the Higher Education Academy’s Fellowship scheme.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to promote curriculum innovation, integrate experiential learning opportunities, and assess the effectiveness of teaching methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in educational technology and provide guidance on the integration of technology tools and resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness of teaching and learning initiatives, collect feedback from stakeholders, and make data-driven decisions to continuously improve programs and services.
  • Provide individual consultations, classroom observations, and feedback to faculty members seeking assistance with course design, instructional techniques, and student engagement strategies.
  • Foster collaborations with academic units, administrative offices, student support services, and external partners to promote a culture of teaching excellence and student success.
  • Provide opportunities for individualized instruction and learning experiences tailored to each student's needs, interests, and learning styles.
  • Offer additional instruction and practice beyond the traditional classroom setting, allowing students to reinforce their understanding of concepts and skills.
  • Promote peer collaboration and teamwork, allowing students to engage in cooperative learning activities and share their knowledge and skills with one another.
  • Manage the budget, staffing, and resources of the Teaching and Learning Center effectively to support its programs and initiatives.
  • Stay informed about relevant policies, regulations, and accreditation standards related to teaching and learning, and provide guidance to ensure compliance and alignment with institutional priorities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in education (or equivalent), instructional design, or a related field.
  • Significant experience ideally at least 7 years in higher education, with a focus on faculty development, teaching and learning support, and curriculum design.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in pedagogy, instructional technology, and assessment of student learning outcomes.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to develop and articulate a strategic vision, build collaborative relationships, and lead change initiatives.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and foster a culture of inclusivity and innovation.
  • Experience managing budgets, allocating resources, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of a department or program.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, reflective practice, and evidence-based decision-making.
