Position Description
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.
About the Department and/or College
The National Wind Institute (NWI) has evolved from its traditional singular focus on wind hazards to three main research pillars of Energy Systems, Atmospheric Measurement & Simulation, and Wind Engineering. Though all three of these pillars focus on distinct issues, they also maintain common ground via cross cutting themes. All research seeks to benefit communities at micro and macro scales.

Major/Essential Functions
- Manage and strategically plan/execute the installation and maintenance of a roadside weather network.
- Manage relationships with federal and state agencies, network users, contractors, and consulting engineers.
- Lead development of automated QA/QC algorithms for acquired measurements.
- Assist with installation and maintenance of West Texas Mesonet stations.
- Assist with the development of targeted data products and streams for network users.
- Help write proposals to conduct associated research.
- Drive to / from network sites
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to conceptualize and provide design guidance for new web-based product development.
- Knowledge of Campbell Scientific data loggers and CRBasic programming language.
- Familiarity with roadside winter weather road management.
- Knowledge of weather-related sensors and associated measurements.
- Ability to troubleshoot sensor, DC power, data acquisition and cell communication issues.
- Basic construction knowledge.
- Experience managing contractors and working with design engineers.
