DIRECTOR-VETERAN SERVICES
General Responsibilities:
To manage the day-to-day operations of the Office for Veteran Recruitment and Student Services. To coordinate and facilitate the functions of the staff. To oversee the development and enhancement of university services for veterans, service members, dependents and survivors with the responsibility for the development and implementation of military-veteran friendly policies and procedures. To enhance the overall educational experience by incorporating student learning and development outcomes in accordance with the divisional vision and mission.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Directs, develops and coordinates strategies and programs to assist with the education and development of veterans, service members, dependents and survivors. Oversees the implementation of a comprehensive education and development center.
- Maintains knowledge of and responsiveness to the needs and experiences of student veterans, military service members and their family members. Retains and prepares veterans for successful transition into the civilian workforce. Fosters and supports a user-friendly environment for veterans, service members, dependents and survivors, and assists in the location of financial, cultural and social support services.
- Works closely with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), other organizations and university departments regarding the availability of resources and opportunities to assist veterans in education and career advancement.
- Implements and assesses programs that increase veteran enrollment at UAB. Establishes and implements short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies and operating procedures. Develops and recommends policies to UAB leadership in support of student veterans, service members, dependents and their survivors.
- Provides advocacy and assistance in support of student issues and challenges. Establishes systematic plans and processes to meet internal and external accountability expectations with regard to programs, student learning and development outcomes. Conducts regular comprehensive assessments and evaluations to ensure that adherence to the stated mission, goals, and student learning and development outcomes are met.
- Represents Veteran Student Services at functions and serves as the University's liaison with outside agencies and offices whose work impacts the lives of veterans, service members and their family members.
- Supervises, trains, develops and evaluates staff and activities, and serves on committees and task forces as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay Range:
$52,555 - $75,000
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences:
- Experience working as a school certifying official
- Clear knowledge of military culture
- Master's degree
