Join us and be part of shaping inclusive student experiences where your expertise makes a real difference:

We are seeking a Disability Advisor with Specialist ASD Mentoring responsibilities to join our Student Experience and Support Services team. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in enabling disabled and neurodivergent students to thrive within a creative and dynamic higher education environment.

Working within a small, specialist Disability Service based in the Student Centre, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across Student Advice and Counselling to deliver coordinated, student-centered support across all programmes of study. The service is committed to inclusive practice, early intervention, and supporting students to access learning on an equitable basis.

About the role

This is a varied and rewarding role combining disability advisory work with specialist one-to-one ASD mentoring. You will manage a diverse caseload, coordinate reasonable adjustments, and provide tailored, non-clinical mentoring support for autistic students, helping them develop practical strategies for independent learning and navigating university life.

You will also work collaboratively across the institution to reduce barriers to learning, promote inclusive practice, and support compliance with the Equality Act 2010.

Why should I apply

  • Be part of a collaborative, specialist team committed to inclusive, student-centered support
  • Play a meaningful role in removing barriers and improving student outcomes
  • Contribute to the development of inclusive practice across the institution
  • Access opportunities for ongoing professional development and reflective practice

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who brings both expertise and a strong commitment to inclusive, student-centered practice. You will be confident working with complexity, able to build effective relationships, and comfortable working within clearly defined professional boundaries.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience of supporting disabled students in higher education or a comparable setting, including managing complex casework
  • Demonstrable understanding of autism in adults within educational contexts, and experience of delivering or supporting one-to-one, non-clinical support
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to respond calmly to students in distress & explain processes clearly and accessibly
