Full time. Your required hours of work are 40 hours per week. The business operations are Mon-Thurs, 9am - 9pm and Fri - Sun, 9am - 6pm.

The postholder will focus on providing specialist support for students with disabilities and specific learning differences (SpLDs), in addition to general advice to the wider student population. As part of a team of professional support staff, the postholder will work with the Head of Student Support, academics, and professional services staff.

Regent College London’s diverse student population includes a significant proportion of students with disabilities and additional learning needs. The Disability Coordinator will assist students with Disabled Student Allowance applications and identify support with diagnostic assessments.

The Disability Coordinator will work in a team of Wellbeing and Disability Advisers and Coordinators to provide comprehensive support and guidance to a diverse population of students. The team are responsible for providing wellbeing support on a one-to-one basis, group seminars and workshops, coordinating peer support initiatives and supporting staff in their development and understanding of wellbeing matters.

Specific duties and responsibilities

  1. Provide specialist advice, guidance, and support to disabled students with long-term medical conditions and mental health conditions.
  2. Interpret diagnostic assessments and DSA Needs Assessment Reports.
  3. Develop tailored support plans and reasonable adjustments in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  4. Reduce and remove barriers to accessing learning and teaching for disabled students.
  5. Develop and deliver events, activities, and workshops.
  6. Respond competently, sensitively, and professionally to students, maintaining confidentiality in line with Data Protection, GDPR, and relevant policy regulations.
  7. Maintain accurate records of student support needs, adjustments, and interventions, ensuring timely updates to internal systems and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  8. Build and maintain effective links with external organisations, including diagnostic assessors, mental health services, and disability charities, to strengthen the support available to students.
  9. Contribute to staff development by sharing expertise, resources, and guidance on disability awareness and inclusive practice.
  10. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of disability support services, gathering student feedback and using data to inform service improvements and best practice.
  11. With appropriate training, act as a Safeguarding Lead for the college.

Person Specification

  • Possession of a degree or an equivalent qualification, or qualification by experience, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and DSA legislation, and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in the higher education (HE) sector.
  • Awareness of sector-wide approaches to disability support and experience of guiding students through processes such as DSA, reasonable adjustments, and access to external services.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and inclusive learning practices that support disabled students in higher education.
  • Proven ability as a collaborative team player with strong verbal and written communication abilities, showcasing adeptness in cultivating positive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organisational prowess, with the ability to effectively plan, prioritise, and manage workloads.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends across campuses: Holborn, Fitzrovia, Wembley, Kingsbury, and Southall.
