Job Description
Within the Griffith Sciences Group, the highly reputable School of Engineering and Built Environment encompasses the fields of civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronic, software, UAV and environmental engineering, construction management, urban planning, industrial design, aviation, and architecture, providing a unique platform for cross disciplinary innovation and multidisciplinary research, and professionally driven undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
The School is seeking a Discipline Head in Aviation to provide strategic leadership across campuses, driving excellence in learning and teaching and advancing research in collaboration with Institute and Centre Directors. The role leads curriculum development and implements innovative strategies to continuously improve teaching quality, program performance and outcomes. The Discipline Head also plays a key leadership role in mentoring, managing and supporting academic staff to foster a high‑performing and collaborative discipline.
Key responsibilities will be to:
- Contribute to discipline program planning and support the implementation of the School’s learning and teaching strategy.
- Provide academic leadership in program development, research, and professional and international engagement.
- Lead, mentor and manage academic staff to deliver high‑quality teaching, research and service outcomes.
- Ensure effective staff performance, professional development and workload allocation in line with University policies and EB agreements.
- Monitor program and course performance, maintaining disciplinary standards and driving continuous improvement in teaching quality.
- Promote the discipline internally and externally, building strong collaborations with researchers, industry, government and community partners.
- Represent the discipline to relevant external stakeholders and contribute to marketing and reputation‑building initiatives.
- Provide values and ethics‑led academic leadership that supports excellence in teaching, research and engagement.
About you
The successful candidate will hold relevant tertiary qualifications up to doctoral level or equivalent accreditation and standing along with proven extensive experience in research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, program and course development and coordination.
You will also have:
- Demonstrated capacity to provide values and ethics‑led academic leadership, contributing to discipline program planning and the effective implementation of institutional learning and teaching strategies.
- Proven experience in leading program development, research activity, and professional and international engagement, while mentoring and managing academic staff to achieve high‑quality teaching, research and service outcomes.
- Strong capability in performance management, workload allocation and professional development in alignment with university policies and enterprise agreements, alongside a track record of monitoring course and program performance to uphold disciplinary standards and drive continuous improvement.
- Highly effective in promoting the discipline internally and externally, building productive collaborations with industry, government, community and research partners, and representing the discipline to external stakeholders to support marketing, engagement and reputation‑building initiatives.
What we can offer
This is a full-time, three-year appointment based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
The successful candidate will also be offered an underlying continuing appointment at Level C or D.
The full-time equivalent base salary for a Senior Lecturer (Level C) is in the range $143,418 - $165,374 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $167,799 - $193,487 per annum.
The full-time equivalent base salary for an Associate Professor (Level D) is in the range $172,686 - $190,248 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $202,043 - $222,590 per annum.
