Division Chief, Associate/Full Professor, Surgery, Breast Surgery
Position Overview
Stony Brook Medicine and the Department of Surgery at the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) are seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as the next Division Chief of Breast Surgery. This senior leadership role offers a unique opportunity to advance a comprehensive, multidisciplinary breast surgery program within a leading academic medical center.
The Division Chief will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership to the Breast Surgery Division, driving excellence across patient care, education, research, and program development.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Program Development
- Lead and expand a high-performing breast surgery division encompassing the full continuum of benign and malignant breast disease.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners including medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, and supportive services to ensure coordinated, patient centered care. Advance clinical quality, outcomes, access, and patient experience initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.
- Support the growth of specialized services, including high-risk patient management and advanced surgical techniques.
Strategic & Administrative Leadership
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for the Division of Breast Surgery aligned with departmental and institutional goals.
- Oversee divisional operations, including faculty recruitment, performance management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Partner with hospital and cancer center leadership to enhance programmatic growth, regional outreach, and market presence.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
Academic & Educational Mission
- Lead the education and mentorship of residents, fellows, and medical students.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence, scholarship, and continuous professional development.
- Support curriculum development and integration of breast surgery education across training programs.
- Develop the infrastructure required for establishing a Breast Fellowship Program
Research & Innovation
- Promote clinical, translational, and outcomes-based research initiatives within the division and in collaboration with the Stony Brook Cancer Center.
- Encourage participation in clinical trials and collaborative research efforts and facilitate patient recruitment.
- Support growth in research funding, publications, and academic productivity.
Required Qualifications
- M.D. (or foreign equivalent) with completion of an accredited General Surgery residency.
- Fellowship training in Breast Surgery or Surgical Oncology with a focus on breast disease.
- Board-certified in General Surgery.
- Eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at RSOM.
- Demonstrated clinical excellence across the spectrum of breast disease.
- Proven leadership experience in an academic or complex healthcare environment.
- Strong record of academic achievement, including teaching, mentorship, and scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in program development and multidisciplinary collaboration is highly desirable.
