Division Chief - Cardiothoracic Imaging - Academic Clinician

Job Description

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Candidates must have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and clinical care. Applicants must be American Board of Radiology certified or eligible with subspecialty training in cardiothoracic radiology.

Teaching responsibilities may include daily clinical supervision of residents and Cardiothoracic Imaging fellows and lecturing to medical students, radiology residents, fellows, and trainees from other departments. In addition, the candidate would be expected to participate in educational activities beyond Penn Radiology, such as preparing learning materials, lectures, and educational exhibits for national meetings.

Clinical responsibilities may include interpretation of chest radiographs, thoracic CT, and thoracic MRI. Experience in the performance of imaged-guided thoracic needle biopsies is preferred. Participating in the Cardiovascular CT and MRI clinical practice is optional. The successful candidate will also participate in shared after-hour and weekend coverage.

Administrative responsibilities include recruiting, developing, and retaining a distinct group of faculty dedicated to practicing in a highly subspecialized and dynamic environment. The successful applicant will have strong leadership skills and a national reputation for clinical excellence; a demonstrated history of research collaboration and mentoring students and/or junior faculty will be considered an important strength.

The section interprets over 110,000 examinations per year performed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, and affiliated outpatient centers on state-of-the-art equipment, including wide-detector and third-generation dual-source CT. Research resources include dedicated 1.5T, 3T, and 7T MRI systems and a comprehensive scientific infrastructure with programs focusing on thoracic applications of quantitative image analysis, imaging genomics, molecular imaging, and hyperpolarized gases.

Penn Radiology provides clinical services for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia Veteran Affairs Medical Center, and affiliated outpatient imaging centers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

This position requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
