Deliver high-impact marketing for health sciences at Otago

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced marketing professional to work at both the academic and institutional heart of New Zealand’s first university: the University of Otago - Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka.

As Divisional Marketing Adviser, you’ll provide strategic marketing leadership across the Division of Health Sciences and key Corporate Divisions, acting as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and stakeholders. You’ll manage a diverse portfolio of internal clients, balancing priorities to ensure their objectives align with the University’s strategic goals. Working closely with colleagues from the Marketing Services team, you’ll deliver high-quality, customer-focused marketing solutions that drive these shared outcomes.

The role | Te mahi

In this role, you’ll operate as a true strategic partner, working across complex and varied portfolios. You will:

  • Provide strategic marketing advice and coordination across the Division of Health Sciences and Corporate Divisions, ensuring alignment with Pae Tata (the University’s Strategic Plan) and our overarching marketing strategy and roadmap.
  • Act as the primary marketing contact for your portfolios, managing client relationships, expectations, and competing priorities with professionalism and care.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior academics, professional staff, and executive stakeholders.
  • Translate student data, market insights, and organisational intelligence into clear objectives, briefs, and prioritised marketing activity.
  • Develop positioning and presentation of complex academic offerings and corporate initiatives in ways that are engaging and meaningful for tauira and wider audiences.
  • Partner with the Marketing Services team to plan integrated work programmes, campaigns, digital and web content.
  • Work closely with colleagues to plan and execute student recruitment activity, including on-campus events and national careers expos.
  • Represent the University with confidence at events and forums, engaging with prospective students, whānau, and key external audiences across Aotearoa.

Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

You’re a strategic, service-oriented marketer who enjoys managing relationships, navigating complexity, and delivering team results. You bring a strong customer mindset and the ability to balance urgent and important priorities across multiple stakeholders.

You’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in marketing (or equivalent experience), ideally within large or complex service organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing internal or external clients, with a strong focus on customer service, relationship management, and prioritisation.
  • Proven ability to juggle competing demands and manage workloads across multiple portfolios.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and trust at senior levels.
  • Analytical capability, with experience using data, insights, and research to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Experience across contemporary marketing channels, including digital, search, and social.
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Confidence in presenting, facilitating, and representing an organisation publicly.
  • Event or experiential marketing experience (advantageous).
  • Practical knowledge of Māori and Pasifika audiences, relationships, and networks (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of te reo me ōna Tikaka (advantageous).
  • A positive, proactive mindset and genuine alignment with the University of Otago’s vision and values.

This is a permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week) position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

The appointment range for this role is $80,749 to $85,649. Top of Range $100,776.
