Overview
In Dalhousie University's Doctor of Dental Surgery programme, you’ll learn techniques in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a full range of dental diseases, including how to screen for oral cancers and perform oral surgery.
Your courses will cover a range of topics, including the biological, medical, and dental sciences. A strong emphasis is placed on clinical patient treatment activities, even in your first year. In your upper years you’ll cover topics such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, comprehensive patient care and more. As early as your second year you’ll treat dental patients in the Faculty of Dentistry's student dental clinic as well as in local hospitals and outreach clinics.

- a minimum of 10 full-year academic classes including the following university classes:
- Introductory Biology (at least six credit hours with lab);
- Introductory Chemistry (at least six credit hours with lab);
- Introductory Physics (at least six credit hours with lab);
- Organic Chemistry (at least six credit hours with lab);
- Human Physiology;
- Introductory Microbiology;
- Introductory Biochemistry;
- Writing class (at least six credit hours);
- Humanities and/or Social Science (at least 12 credit hours).
Competitive applicants need to achieve a minimum A- average (3.7 on a 4.3 scale) in the last 60 credit hours of study AND in their higher sciences courses (biochemistry, microbiology, and human physiology). Candidates who have not met these requirements will not be considered for admission.
