Overview
Dalhousie University's Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy programme will equip you the education and experience you need to become a practicing pharmacist.
The innovative problem-based learning curriculum gives you the opportunity to solve real-life problems in a small group setting. This means fewer lectures and more hands-on learning to prepare you for your career. You’ll also participate in 40 weeks of clinical rotations to further build your skills and knowledge.

The pharmaceutical industry provides opportunities for pharmacists in the fields of sales and marketing, production, research, and quality control.
Pharmacists also fulfill roles in other health-related industries including government, private industries, and universities (as educators, administrators, consultants, or researchers)

Programme options
- Course-based: The problem-based learning (PBL) modules combined with courses that cover both the scientific and social aspects of pharmacy will prepare you for practice.
- Practicum: With over 40 weeks of clinical rotations, you will have many opportunities to put your knowledge into practice.
Accreditation
The programme has been awarded provisional accreditation status by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs.
Programme Structure
The Problem-Based Learning Curriculum, which has been offered by Dalhousie for over 20 years, offers students the ability to solve real-life problems in a small group setting. This means fewer lectures and more experiential learning to prepare you for real-world scenarios. The 7 skills lab courses build on the learning from other courses and use simulated pharmacy experiences to prepare for practice experiences in the field.

- Thesis-based master's degree or its equivalent.
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B average) in the last 60 credit hours of study.
- Degree granted by a university of recognized standing.
