Doctoral candidate in 4D tomographic image reconstruction

Through top scientific research, we push back boundaries and set a course for the future – a future that you can help to shape. Imec-Visionlab within the Department of Physics is looking for a Doctoral Candidate in the field of 4D Tomographic Image Reconstruction (f/m). This position is part of the MSCA Doctoral Network project X-CELERATE ( www.x-celerate.org ), which aims to boost the development of novel imaging tools to study advanced materials. The aim of this PhD project is to develop novel 4D image reconstruction methods for X-ray imaging where the object changes over time. In particular, the goal is to develop efficient 4D reconstruction algorithms to study advanced materials using dynamic micro–X-ray-CT. To this end, physics models, CAD info and region-based prior knowledge will be integrated into the reconstruction method that allow accurate estimation of deformation parameters and enhance the quality of 4D CT images. Position You will work actively on the preparation of a PhD thesis in the field of 4D Tomographic Image Reconstruction You will disseminate your research findings through publications in high-impact scientific journals and by presenting your work at national and international conferences. You are willing to travel and participate in training activities and research secondments with other MSCA partner institutions across Europe. Starting date: preferably between June and September 2026. Profile You hold a Master degree in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or related studies, or you will have obtained it by the time you start work. You can demonstrate excellent study results. You are proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., python, c++, ...) You fulfil the general MSCA eligibility criteria. Applicants can be of any nationality, but researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Belgium for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their date of recruitment.
