The Doctoral School VISESS at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy of the University of Vienna addresses current societal challenges through inter- and transdisciplinary academic research spanning the COSMOS, planet EARTH, its ENVIRONMENT and the ANTHROPOSPHERE. We aim for our students to become world-leading experts in their fields while confidently communicating and contributing across disciplines.
The Doctoral School is currently inviting applications for a doctoral position at the Faculty in the following field: Palaeontology.

Your future tasks:
- Participation in research projects/research studies, as well as conducting independent research related to your dissertation. We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within the first 12 months.
- Dissemination of project results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Contribution to the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia
- Involvement in organizational tasks related to research, teaching, and administration
- (Further) development of strong communication, data presentation, and visualization skills
- (Further) development of the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
- You become an active member of your working group and the VISESS Doctoral School.

You can apply if you are a highly qualified graduate who:
- has completed a Diploma or Master’s degree in the/a field represented in the current call by the participating doctoral schools (in this case VISESS) or a closely related discipline;
- demonstrates a strong interest in academic research and in pursuing a PhD at the University of Vienna;
- meets the doctoral admission requirements of the University of Vienna by the start of employment;
- has basic experience in academic writing, as well as subject-specific knowledge, methodological expertise, and skills as outlined for the specific position on the call website;
- has an excellent command of written and spoken English.
