The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher (ICP1) within the research line:
"Development of Models for the Decarbonisation of the Electricity System."
The position is associated with the research project:
"Innovative Management for Saturated Energy Communities (iMAGEC)"

The project is funded by the Canary Islands Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) and has an execution end date of 30 September 2028.
The selected researcher will be based at the School of Industrial and Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, ULPGC.
The research position focuses on the development of models and strategies for the operation and decarbonisation of electricity systems, particularly in the context of energy communities, grid stability, inverter operation, controlled power curtailment, coordinated Volt/Var dispatch and participation in electricity, flexibility and carbon markets.
Main Responsibilities
The selected researcher will participate in the activities associated with the work packages of the iMAGEC project, including:
Electrical Grid Modelling
- Modelling electrical grids under both steady-state and dynamic conditions.
- Carrying out stability studies.
- Performing sensitivity analyses relating system stability to inverter operating parameters.
Energy Management and Optimisation
- Designing controlled power curtailment plans.
- Defining coordinated Volt/Var dispatch frameworks.
- Developing multi-criteria and multi-objective optimisation approaches.
- Defining strategies for participation in:
- Electricity markets.
- Flexibility markets.
- Carbon markets.
Regulatory Analysis
- Analysing regulatory frameworks at:
- Local level.
- National level.
- European level.
The researcher will also contribute to:
- Project management activities.
- Preparation of technical and scientific reports.
- Monitoring of the project's quality plan.
- Dissemination of project results.
Travel
Availability to travel is required for communication and dissemination activities and project meetings.

Benefits
Contract type: Permanent position linked to a research line/project.
Working hours: Part-time, 20 hours per week.
Working schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00–14:00.

Monthly gross salary: €1,150.13 gross per month, according to the applicable salary scale.
The offer may include additional salary supplements, subject to the availability of funding within the project and the applicable instructions of the ULPGC Vice-Rectorate for Research.

Eligibility criteria
The maximum score is 100 points.
A minimum score of 60 points is required to be selected or included on the reserve list.
1. Research and/or Professional Experience – Maximum 70 points
Only merits appropriate to the profile of the position will be assessed.
1.1. Suitability of Experience – up to 50 points
Experience will be assessed through contracts or membership of research or working teams in the field of industrial engineering, obtained through public and competitive calls.
Scoring:
- Predoctoral contract: 5 points per year.
- Postdoctoral contract: 10 points per year.
- Predoctoral research team membership: 5 points per year.
- Postdoctoral research team membership: 10 points per year.
- Predoctoral working team membership: 2 points per year.
- Postdoctoral working team membership: 4 points per year.
1.2. Scientific Publications – up to 20 points
Articles published in JCR-indexed journals:
- Q1: 10 points.
- Q2: 5 points.
- Q3 or Q4: 1 point.
1.3. Conference Participation – up to 20 points
- International conference: 2 points.
- National conference: 1 point
1.4. Patents – up to 10 points
- 10 points per granted patent.
1.5. Participation in Contracts with Public or Private Entities – up to 15 points
- Predoctoral contract: 2 points per year.
- Postdoctoral contract: 4 points per year.
1.6. National or International Research Stays – up to 6 points
Research stays of at least one month:
- 6 points per year.
1.7. Project Dissemination Activities – up to 5 points
- 1 point per dissemination activity.

2. Academic Training – Maximum 10 points
2.1. Academic Record – up to 6 points
The academic record will be assessed according to the following criteria:
PhD:
- Summa cum laude / Sobresaliente cum laude: 2 points.
- Sobresaliente: 1 point.
Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering:
- Sobresaliente: 2 points.
- Notable: 1 point.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering:
- Sobresaliente: 2 points.
- Notable: 1 point.
Industrial Engineering degree:
- Sobresaliente: 4 points.
- Notable: 3 points.
- Suficiente: 2 points.
The qualification required as an eligibility requirement is not itself scored as an additional merit.
2.2. Additional Master's Degrees – up to 4 points
- 2 points per official Master's degree other than the Master's degree required in Industrial Engineering.
Supporting documentation: academic certificates showing the average grade for each qualification submitted and, for additional Master's degrees, the degree certificate and transcript.
3. Personal Interview – Maximum 20 points
A personal interview will be conducted.
To reach this stage, candidates must obtain at least 60 points in the previous assessment phase. Only the three highest-scoring candidates from the previous phase will proceed to the interview.
The interview will assess:
- Suitability of the candidate's profile and skills for the position.
- Knowledge of the sector in which the candidate will work.
- Initiative and teamwork skills.
- Ability to present and communicate results.
- Motivation.
The interview may be conducted in English or Spanish.
Selection process
After the application deadline:
- A provisional list of admitted and excluded candidates will be published.
- Excluded candidates will have 3 working days to correct formal errors.
- A definitive list of admitted and excluded candidates will be published.
- The Evaluation Committee will assess candidates according to the published criteria.
- A provisional award proposal will be published in order of score.
- Candidates will have 3 working days to submit allegations.
- Following resolution of the allegations, the final award proposal will be submitted to the competent authority.
The selection process is based on the principles of equality, merit and ability, guaranteeing transparency, objectivity and impartiality.
Probationary Period
The contract is subject to a two-month probationary period, provided that the contract lasts longer than two months.
Reserve List
Unsuccessful candidates may be included in a reserve list to cover the position in the event that the selected candidate resigns or a vacancy arises during the duration of the contract.
Contract Termination
The contract may be terminated for legally established reasons, including insufficient, exhausted or discontinued funding, completion of the specific tasks, objective grounds established under Spanish employment legislation, or any other legally established cause.
Termination compensation: 20 days' salary per year worked, or the corresponding proportional amount where the period worked is less than one year.

General Eligibility Requirements
