Door Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Reporting to the Facilities Access Control Supervisor, the Door Maintenance Technician's primary focus is the maintenance and installation of doors and door hardware. Employs technical skills necessary to maintain complicated mechanisms used on impaired mobility doors. Responds to afterhours call backs for door related issues. Maintains tools and updates work order records in the computerized maintenance work order system (HokieServ).
Required Qualifications
- Considerable experience at the journey level in carpentry field, including maintenance of doors, frames, hardware and doors featuring automatic mechanisms.
- Demonstrated knowledge of carpentry methods, tools and materials.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of university customers.
- Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more; maneuver materials up and down stairs; climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling;
- Communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
- This is a designated emergency personnel position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a large commercial or educational setting.
- Experience with Stanley, IR & Dorma Automatic Openers.
- Knowledge of Hokie Passport and how it relates to exterior and interior doors.
- Experience using HokieServ and familiarity with HokieMart.
