Early Childhood Education Embedded Tutor- Bilingual
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of the CCRI Department of Human Services is to teach students to function as competent, ethical Human Services practitioners and educators prepared to fill a variety of entry level positions in a diverse society, well-equipped to pursue a Baccalaureate degree in their chosen profession. Each concentration is designed to facilitate professional development and job market preparation, balanced with courses that reflect the more traditional requirements for a well-rounded liberal arts education.
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Anchor Grant Program is a collaborative initiative between the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), Brown University, and early childhood education partners, including the Providence Public School District (PPSD), designed to support academic success and strengthen educational pathways for early childhood education practitioners.
The ECE Embedded Tutor - Bilingual provides course-based academic tutoring and instructional support to students enrolled in Early Childhood Education coursework within the Anchor Program. This is an embedded position requiring attendance in assigned ECE courses during scheduled class sessions, including evening classes, to support instruction and reinforce concepts presented by the instructor. The Tutor provides academic support in English and Spanish, as needed, for students who benefit from clarification in Spanish, and supports adult learners balancing academic and employment responsibilities.

ECE Anchor Program Student Support
- Attend assigned Early Childhood Education courses in person during scheduled class meetings, including evening sessions, to provide embedded academic support.
- Provide in-person and virtual tutoring to individuals and small groups of Early Childhood Education students.
- Reinforce and explain course concepts, readings, assignments, and instructional materials as presented by the instructor.
- Support students during lectures, classroom activities, and structured learning exercises.
- Provide individualized academic support by adapting explanations and strategies to meet diverse student learning needs.
- Provide bilingual academic support in English and Spanish as needed for students who benefit from Spanish-language clarification.
- Assist students in developing academic success skills, including study strategies, note-taking, reading comprehension, organization, and test preparation.
- Actively engage with students to build confidence, motivation, and a sense of academic belonging.
- Proactively support students who are absent, disengaged, or struggling to encourage continued participation and academic success.
- Assist students in navigating and using course materials, textbooks, and online learning platforms.
- Model effective study habits and academic behaviors that support success in Early Childhood Education coursework.
- Refer students to appropriate CCRI academic support services, including advising, library services, and other campus resources as needed
- Communicate with faculty, program coordinators, and staff to support student learning and program coordination.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, attendance, and student participation as required.
- Participate in program meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Earned an associate?s degree in early childhood education, Education, Human Services, Child Development, or related field (bachelor?s preferred).
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in tutoring, academic support, or related educational services.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and supporting diverse learners, including adult and nontraditional students.
- Ability to attend assigned ECE courses during scheduled class sessions, including evenings.
- Ability to reinforce and explain academic content in a clear and accessible manner.
- Experience using learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard Ultra, Google Classroom) and virtual platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Webex.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor?s degree in early childhood education or related field.
- Experience working in higher education, community college, or academic support programs.
- Experience supporting English language learners in academic settings.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with adult learners in developmental or foundational coursework.
- Familiarity with Early Childhood Education concepts or coursework.
- Experience providing both in-person and online tutoring.
- Experience proactively engaging students who are absent, disengaged, or struggling.
