About us

The Mauri lab is located in the state-of-the-art Pears Building with close links to the Royal Free Hospital. Our lab is interested in the identification, functional analysis, and the genetical characterisation of regulatory B cells (Bregs), a subset of B cells with immunosuppressive properties essential for maintaining immune homeostasis.

We work primarily in the context of autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis, Covid-19 vaccination, and cancer.

About the role

We are offering a fully funded PhD position in the Mauri lab (Claudia Mauri Profile | University College London) at the UCL Institute of Immunology and Transplantation (IIT), supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) UNION Network: Understanding frailty towards a future of healthy ageing. Based in London, a dynamic and multicultural city home to world-class research institutions, this position provides an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of cutting-edge research.

The position will begin in September 2025 and is available until September 2028 in the first instance.

About you

We are seeking one highly motivated early-career researcher with a background in immunology to investigate B cell metabolism across tissue microenvironments in age-related diseases, including cancer. The project will integrate wet lab experiments with computational analysis, such as R and Python, and includes two secondments in outstanding partner institutions.

Eligibility criteria:

  • No doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.
  • Researchers funded by Doctoral Networks can be of any nationality.
  • Candidates should not have lived or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before their recruitment (country of main activity = not only where the fellow was physically based but also the country of the institution for which the main activity was performed e.g. for remote positions).
  • Candidate must have 1 year of research experience minimum
  • A high level of proficiency in written and spoken English (certified at B2 level or equivalent) is required

Please see the attached job description and person specification for full details. Please also read the attached Candidate Guidance document.

All applications must include a supporting statement, telling us, using examples, how you meet the essential criteria listed in the job description. Applications without a supporting statement will be rejected.

If you have any queries about the role or application process, technical issues, or need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, please contact the staffing team at hr.ii@ucl.ac.uk.

Application Deadline: 15th June 2025 at 23:59
