20 hours per week to be worked within standard university business hours based on a schedule established upon hiring.

8:30am - 5:00pm (academic year)
8:00am - 4:30pm (summer)

Job Description:
The SU Press at the Syracuse University Libraries is searching for an Editorial and Production Assistant (EPA). This position supports and assists the Editorial and Production team through all stages of book production, including assisting with the production of reprints, checking print and digital proof corrections, managing printer requests, submitting Library of Congress cataloging applications, corresponding with vendors, print and digital file assessment and maintenance, digital accessibility checks, and other tasks as directed. The EPA covers all basic tasks involved in preparing book manuscripts for printing and creating the accessible ePub file. The EPA also participates in team and press-wide meetings and has an overall understanding of the book publishing process. The EPA will investigate ways to use approved and specific artificial intelligence tools to meet university goals.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in a humanities or applied arts discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Sound knowledge of English language and grammar, scholarly apparatus, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Good writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with digital image and text files, design principles, and accessibility.
- Familiarity with HTML/XML and CSS.
- Training or experience using Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Cloud suites (especially InDesign) required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with project organization, tracking, and assessment, correspond and manage vendor requests.
- Preparation of reprint files; corresponding with press staff.
- Check print and digital proofs and review print and ePub advance copies for errors and meeting accessibility requirements.
- Submit Library of Congress cataloging applications.
- Print and digital file assessment, maintenance, and clean up as directed.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
