Job Summary
This is a full-time, twelve month position, which reports to the Directors for the specific locations of Fulton, Clayton and Thomaston Upward Bound. The Education Specialist position is critical to ensuring the success of Upward Bound by coordinating activities and events pertinent to the academic realization of student participants. This position requires the Education Specialist to be on location at the specific High School three days a week and two days at AMSC in Atlanta. Weekly schedule subject to change to meet the needs of the program. Additionally, the position is responsible for fostering the development of positive relationships between AMSC and High School administration, faculty, staff and students.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include coordinating all student activities
- Conducting group and individual counseling sessions
- Providing academic advisement
- Recruiting potential students
- Assisting seniors with college admissions and financial aid applications
- Conducting workshops with parents and students
- Chaperoning all Upward Bound activities
- Visiting target schools weekly to meet with students
- Assisting academic instructors with after-school tutoring supervision
- Maintaining student files
- Interviewing parents of potential students
- Assisting program director with new student orientation
- Maintaining relationships with target school counselors and other key school personnel
- Coordinating pre and post testing of students
- Coordinating follow-up of program graduates
- Coordinating summer class schedules for students
- Assisting program director with grant writing
- Assisting program director with program evaluation
- Other duties as assigned by the program director
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Social Science, Mathematics, Science,
Required Experience
At least two years experience in an educational setting working with low-income, first generation high school age youth. Applicants should be knowledgeable of scholarship searches, FAFSA requirements and college admissions procedures.
Required Qualifications
Candidates applying for the position must have a Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Social Science, Mathematics, Science, or a related field, with at least two years of experience in an educational setting working with low-income, first-generation high school-age youth. Applicants should be knowledgeable about scholarship searches, FAFSA requirements, and college admissions procedures. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Upward Bound experience preferred.
Proposed Salary
$49,000 Annually
