Educational Specialist for Upward Bound Fulton
Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for an Education Specialist of Upward Bound Program. Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) currently, serves 3000 commuting students on a beautifully landscaped campus located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
This is a full-time, twelve-month position, which reports to the Director of Upward Bound. The Education Specialist position is critical to ensuring the success of Upward Bound by coordination activities and events pertinent to the academic realization of student participants.
Additionally, the position is responsible for foster the development of positive relationships between AMSC and the assigned High School administration, faculty, staff, and students.
Responsibilities - 50
- Responsibilities include coordination all student activities
- Conducting group and individual counseling sessions
- Providing academic advisement; recruiting potential students; assisting seniors with college admissions and financial aid applications
- Conducting workshops with parents and students
Duties - 50
- Chaperoning all Upward Bound activities
- Visiting target schools weekly to meet with students
- Assisting program director with new student orientation
- Maintaining relationships with target school counselors and other key school personnel
- Coordination pre and post testing of students
- Assisting program director with program evaluation
- Other duties as assigned by the program director.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Candidates applying for the position must have a Bachelor's Degree in English, Education, Social Science, Mathematics, Science, or a related field.
Required Experience
At least 2 years experience in an educational setting with low-income, first generation high school age youth.
Other Required Qualifications
- Applicants should be knowledgeable of scholarship searches, FAFSA requirements and college admissions procedures.
- Upward Bound experience preferred.
Proposed Salary
The Range for this salary is $48,000
The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University System of Georgia offers an excellent benefits package, including annual and sick leave accruals, paid holidays, life and health insurances, and a retirement plan.
