Job Summary

Installs pathways and spaces for installation of low voltage wiring. Installs, terminates, and tests wires and cables, both copper and fiber-optic. Installs, tests, and troubleshoots cabling systems. Installs communications and sound distribution systems. Installs prefabricated systems, such as controllers, dimming systems, life/safety systems, and energy management systems.

Performs testing, analysis, and repair of video, voice, and data systems.

Utilizes tools and equipment in a safe manner as well as following all applicable safety rules and procedures.

Reviews and makes applicable recommendations to drawings, blueprints, and construction specifications.

Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed.

Orders replacement parts and components as needed.

Provides documentation as required for field work and assignments.

Assists in providing work estimates on assigned projects.

Stays available for emergency callouts and overtime as required.

Drives vehicle if needed.

Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) and 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience; OR
Associate's degree and 2 years of verifiable journey-level experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.
