Electrical Engineering
Overview
The main objective of the Electrical Engineering programme from Politecnico di Milano is to allow an active involvement of PhDs in any research body such as an R&D department of a production or service company. A PhD in Electrical Engineering has a solid basic knowledge of mathematics and physics. This is essential, particularly for handling and understanding advanced tools and methods as well as for proper modelling, analysis and design of electrical engineering applications, with particular regard to power applications.

Currently, several very important opportunities are given to electrical engineers all over the world. PhDs in electrical engineering are typically employed at major research centres, including University and Academic institutions, R&D departments in the public and private industry, power generation companies, transmission and distribution utilities, consultant offices, metrology reference institutes and certification laboratories, transport areas, public bodies such as the Regulators or State offices. Moreover, self-employment professional activity is also a very popular option.

English requirements
General requirements
In order to access the Politecnico di Milano PhD programmes it is necessary to have one of these qualifications:
- a university degree obtained under the educational system in force prior to M.D. n. 509 dated 3.11.1999
- a Laurea Specialistica (equivalent to a Master of Science) obtained in accordance with M.D. n. 509 dated 3.11.1999
- a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to a Master of Science) obtained in accordance with M.D. n. 270 dated 22.10.2004
- or similar academic qualifications obtained abroad that are equivalent in terms of duration and contents to the Italian qualifications and previously recognised by the Judging Panels.
- Where there are foreign qualifications, applicants must submit all documents required to enable the Selection Committee to establish the eligibility of the qualifications obtained abroad.

For the first enrollment and for enrollment in the following years the PhD student without scholarships are required to pay an amount of Euro 167,04.
