Position Purpose
The Electrical Shop is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all the College’s electrical power distribution systems. The Electrician IV installs, repairs, and maintains electrical distribution systems, including high voltage, circuits, equipment, controls, and mentors junior level electricians.

- High school graduate with a four-year apprenticeship and 12 years of relevant experience; or the equivalent.
- Driver Safety- Electrical Safety related work practices

Key Accountabilities
Description
Primary responsibilities
- Under general supervision and/or working independently, following plans, blueprints, or sketches, determines work methods to accomplish assignments. Plans and lays out the needed routing, placement and arrangements of a system’s circuits, controls and equipment.
- Assists with renovations. Uses college data sources for access to building plans and O&M manuals.
- Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches and motors, position sensing devices and re-lamps indoor and outdoor fixtures.
- Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a variety of equipment, circuitry, and fixtures, relays and switchgear, fans, and switches.
- Tests circuits and equipment by use of multimeter or ammeter.
- Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit. Inserts, splices, and connects wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, and power source.
Description
Working independently or with peer electricians
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment; connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
- Investigates and troubleshoots lighting control systems using vendor software to perform physical repairs.
- Investigates, troubleshoots, installs and programs various electric components such as variable frequency drives ( VFD ).
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
- Performs campus Dig Safe responsibilities.

Mentors and educates Electrician I, II, & III via working with and explaining procedures.
- For example, provide clear and concise instructions to coworkers; educate offering constructive input to coworkers performing work.
- While performing maintenance work explain the procedures being taken and the reasoning behind the action.
- When qualified, allow the technician to perform the work under supervision.

- Works from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and platforms.
- Work requires bending, keeling, standing, climbing, and working in stretched, cramped or awkward positions.
- Work involves regular lifting, carrying, or holding objects weighing from up to 120 pounds.
- Work is performed: indoors; outdoors; in harsh weather; in areas that are dirty, or smoky and where fumes are present, in underground manholes .
- Is exposed to cuts and bruises and more serious injuries working on ladders, scaffolds, etc.
- Work involves wearing special or protective clothing such as aprons or overalls; gloves; goggles; and ear plugs.
