Offer Description
We are looking for a hands-on Electronics & Hardware Integration Engineer to join the Engineering and Research Infrastructure team at the Centre of Excellence in Maritime Robotics and Technologies for Sustainable Blue Economy (MARBLE). The role combines electronics design with practical hardware integration and field work. You will design and build electronic systems, integrate sensors, computers, controllers and power electronics, manufacture and modify prototypes, troubleshoot hardware, and support the installation and operation of MARBLE's robotic systems and pilot-site infrastructure. We are looking for someone who is comfortable both designing electronics at a computer and building and debugging systems at the workbench or in the field. The role is suitable for an engineer with professional experience as well as a strong recent graduate with relevant practical, project or research experience.
About us:
MARBLE – Centre of Excellence for Maritime Robotics and Technologies for Sustainable Blue Economy, is a R&D non-profit company, financed by the European Commission under the prestigious Horizon Europe Teaming programme, founded by University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing.
The main goal of CoE MARBLE is to engage Croatia in a path of sustainable innovative growth in blue economy in strategic partnership with Norwegian University of Science and Technology and National Research Council (Italy). The strategic vision of CoE MARBLE is to put Croatia on the map of R&I excellence by becoming a European lighthouse and a role model in the field of maritime robotics and technologies, focusing on key research areas identified as essential enablers with the highest impact on the blue economy sectors aligned with the Smart Specialization Strategy of Croatia.
Workplace:
- MARBLE – Centre of Excellence in Maritime Robotics and Technologies for Sustainable Blue Economy, Zagreb
- Occasional fieldwork and integration tests at pilot sites
Key responsibilities:
- Design, development, integration and testing of electronic and mechatronic systems
- Design of electronic circuits, schematics and PCBs
- PCB prototyping, assembly, bring-up, testing and troubleshooting
- Design and implementation of power distribution, regulation and protection solutions
- Integration of sensors, embedded controllers, computers and communication equipment
- Integration of hardware platforms such as STM32, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, FPGA-based systems or similar devices
- Design and assembly of wiring harnesses, cables, connectors and electrical enclosures
- Hands-on work including soldering, crimping, wiring, connector assembly, mechanical mounting and modification of electronic equipment
- Selection and integration of sensors and interfaces such as Ethernet, CAN, RS-232/RS-485, USB, I2C, SPI and similar interfaces
- Use of laboratory test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analysers and related equipment
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic faults
- Mounting and integration of sensors, controllers, computers and other equipment on robotic platforms and pilot-site infrastructure
- Development of robust solutions for outdoor and maritime environments, including waterproof connectors, cable management, electrical enclosures and environmental protection
- Preparation of technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials and integration documentation
- Participation in component and equipment selection and procurement
- Support for laboratory integration, field trials and deployment of equipment
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of electronics and electrical equipment at MARBLE pilot sites
- Collaboration with software, robotics, mechanical and infrastructure engineers as part of multidisciplinary development teams
- Participation in MARBLE research, development and commercial projects
- Other engineering tasks related to the position as agreed with the Head of Engineering and Research Infrastructure

Skills/Qualifications
Candidates’ profile – Must haves:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant practical experience
- Practical understanding of electronic circuit design and electronic components
- Experience designing electronic circuits and/or PCBs
- Hands-on experience with electronics assembly and integration, including soldering, wiring, crimping and connector assembly
- Ability to independently assemble, test, debug and troubleshoot electronic systems
- Familiarity with embedded controllers, single-board computers, sensors and communication interfaces
- Ability and willingness to perform practical workshop and field work, including installation and mounting of equipment
- Ability to read and produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation
- Responsible and systematic approach to engineering work and documentation
- Ability to take ownership of assigned technical tasks from design through integration and testing
- Ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Working proficiency in English
Preferred qualifications – Bonus points:
- Experience with Altium Designer, KiCad or similar PCB design software
- Experience designing power electronics, power distribution or battery-powered systems
- Experience with embedded electronic systems and microcontrollers such as STM32
- Experience with Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded computing platforms
- Basic programming experience in C/C++, Python or similar languages
- Experience with CAN, RS-485, Ethernet and other industrial or embedded communication interfaces
- Experience designing or integrating equipment for outdoor, marine, underwater or other harsh environments
- Experience with waterproof connectors, IP-rated enclosures and marine cabling
- Experience with sensor integration and data acquisition systems
- Experience participating in hardware integration or field trials
- Experience producing prototypes and taking them from initial design through assembly and testing
- Category B driving licence
- Diving qualification is an advantage but not required
