Job Summary
The Elevator Mechanic position is part of a dynamic, service-focused facilities team within the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Division of Facilities Planning & Management. We are seeking a skilled Elevator Mechanic to repair, troubleshoot, modernize, and maintain a wide range of traction and hydraulic elevators.
Elevator Mechanics ensure that elevator equipment remains safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must possess strong service skills and have broad knowledge of the elevator trade. This position will work closely with regulatory agencies on code compliance related to elevators and other vehicle lift equipment.

Full-Time: 100% FTE
Work is performed onsite and is generally scheduled Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm. This position requires availability for occasional overtime and after-hours calls. The incumbent in this role will be on a rotational after-hour call list with their elevator mechanic team members.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Interprets blueprints and drawings to determine specifications and calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client
- Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs
- Performs skilled elevator construction, modern ization, and repairs according to established standards, applicable codes, and inspections
- Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
- Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations
- Collaborates with contractors, manages contractor service agreements, and reviews billable repairs
