Salary Range: $34.07 - $38.87

Position Summary
Under direction, performs high quality electromyographic procedures for nerve conduction studies
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.
- Performs quality assurance related activities. Maintains statistics, checks equipment, performs preventative maintenance and initiates calls for equipment service as necessary.
- Performs standard and advanced nerve conduction studies. Recognizes normal and abnormal results. Recognizes and takes reasonable steps to eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifacts.
- Explains test procedure to patient and checks the patient's medical chart for orders and special needs, with particular attention to patients with pacemakers and defibrillators.
- As needed, assists with electrodiagnostic studies by preparing or manipulating instruments and applying surface recording electrodes.
- Files study recordings in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
- May supervise or assist junior staff with laboratory research projects.
- Assists with answering office phones and scanning medical records into the practice management system.
Education
- High School Diploma
Experience
Approximately 2 years of work experience as an EMG Technician
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- EMG certification is preferred as is experience in a teaching hospital.
- Traineeship in nerve conduction studies is desired, but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, diseases related to electrodiagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics and electrical safety.
