Employment Relations Manager
• Salary: 8/9 $120,866 - $149,960 + 17% Superannuation, depending on experience
• Full-time, ongoing opportunity (35 hours per week)
About the Role
The Employee Relations Manager will provide senior, specialist advice on complex employment and industrial relations matters, supporting leaders across the University to manage risk, resolve issues effectively, and deliver fair and consistent outcomes.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Employment & Industrial Relations, the role operates at both a strategic and operational level. You will lead and manage complex ER casework, support enterprise bargaining, enterprise agreement implementation and employment compliance initiatives, and contribute to advocacy and representation in external tribunals as required.
This role is suited to an experienced ER practitioner who enjoys working on high‑impact matters, applying sound judgement, and partnering with leaders to enable confident and effective people management.
About the Team
You will be joining the Employment & Industrial Relations team within the People & Culture Division, part of the Vice President (Operations) portfolio.
The team is an established, specialist group that works closely with HR Business Partners and senior leaders across the University. It is known for its measured, solutions‑focused approach and its ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues while maintaining strong working relationships.
As part of the broader People & Culture function, the team collaborates closely with colleagues across business partnering, wellbeing, health and safety, and culture, capability and belonging — providing integrated, end‑to‑end people support across the organisation.
Skill and Experience
You will bring:
- A degree in Law, Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Strong experience in employment relations and/or industrial relations within a complex or regulated environment
- Demonstrated success managing high‑risk and sensitive ER matters
- Experience contributing to ER projects, compliance programs or enterprise agreement implementation
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and advise at senior levels
- Strong written communication skills, including drafting reports, correspondence and submissions
- Sound knowledge of employment legislation and contemporary ER practice
- A people-centred, balanced and solutions‑focused approach with strong professional judgement
