Job Description
Engineering and Technology Year-Long Internship
Duration: 12 months
Starting salary: £23,600 (pro rata) + £500 joining bonus to support with moving and hybrid working
Location: Derby, Bristol, Solihull
At Rolls-Royce we are committed to always being a force for progress; powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.
Our Internship programmes are designed to help you build your career from day one. You'll work on meaningful projects, learn from experienced colleagues and develop the skills to make a real impact. That's Infinite Potential.
Role overview: During your 12-months on our Engineering and Technology Internship programme, you'll gain invaluable insight into the breadth of our work and discover where you'd like to take your career with us.
You'll join our Engineering, Technology and Safety organisation, which supports all our different divisions. You'll complete rotational 'gigs', gathering experience across the engineering lifecycle and building capabilities such as mechanical systems, manufacturing, software and digital, electrical, materials and development. These gigs could be within our central Engineering, Technology and Safety teams or within our Civil Aerospace, Defence, Defence Nuclear Submarines or Power Systems divisions. We want to give you a breadth of experience across Rolls-Royce to build your network. You could be asked to support on any of your rotational gigs in our Civil, Power or Defence functions, depending on business needs.
What you'll be doing:
- Working on exciting and varied projects - from exploring Nuclear options for powering the UK's fleet of Naval Submarines, to helping develop next-generation demonstrator engines such as the UltraFan or for the Global Combat Air Programme
- Using data, technology and AI to improve environmental performance at power stations, test marine automation software or strengthen cyber-security
- You'll develop through a mix of digital learning, on-the-job training and opportunities that bring your ideas to life in meaningful ways
- Accessing opportunities for continuous learning
Who we're looking for:
- A degree in any STEM subject, or joint honours degrees that combine STEM with subjects like business or economics
- A strong passion for the future of technology
- A willingness to work flexibly and travel between locations: in most cases, you will be able to achieve the scheme requirements in the location you are recruited to, however, we may need you to be flexible and travel between sites during or for your rotational 'gigs'
- Being open-minded, curious and agile in your approach to work and career development
Our behaviours drive us - we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. We'll expect that of you, too.
We see hybrid working as a way to balance and flex our time between the office, home, or another remote working place. Everyone is expected on site, on average, a minimum three days per week. But specific arrangements will vary from role to role and gig to gig. We encourage and support flexible working arrangements where we can.
To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence business areas an individual must hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
What we offer:
- Meaningful work from day one, with the support to help you succeed
- A culture that invests in your personal and professional development
- The chance to grow your skills while working on real projects in a global company
You'll be working on real projects and making a real difference from day one. That's why we make sure you're properly rewarded for the work you do. Along with your salary, you'll get:
- 33 days' annual leave, including bank holidays
- Access to an independent, 24-hour, confidential counselling service
Join us and help create the technologies that will shape tomorrow. If you're ready to learn, grow and make a lasting difference from day one, we'd love to hear from you.
Rolls-Royce are committed to being a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace where individuality is valued, diverse perspectives fuel innovation, and everyone can thrive.
Closing date: Friday 13th November 2026
We reserve the right to close the job advert early dependent on application volumes.
Assessment centres will take place between November - December
