Job Description:

Full-time (10-month) faculty position to teach English and related courses, mainly English 1 and English 2, beginning August 2026. Primarily in-person courses. Remote work is not available. Travel required to multiple SFSC locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Guides learning in the teaching discipline and related courses at various campuses and centers.
2. Assists in curriculum development, creating learning activities and implementing assessment and planning.
3. Works a basic work week of forty (40) hours which includes classroom instruction, office hours for student conferences, preparation/research and other professional activities.
4. Attends and participates in departmental meetings, college-wide academic meetings, and official functions scheduled by the administration. Serves on college committees as assigned.
5. Evaluates student learning outcomes and objective achievement, maintaining and reporting information as prescribed by college policies and procedures; supervises students and resolves classroom problems.
6. Maintains appropriate credentials and current knowledge of developments and teaching strategies in the discipline/program areas taught. Participates in professional development activities including, but not limited to: workshops and conferences; membership in professional organizations; self-improvement course work and activities.
7. Participates in and supports faculty and student activities. Maintains good relationships with community agencies and groups, participating when appropriate.
8. Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
9. Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Educational: Master's degree in English from a regionally-accredited institution (or a Master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in English) required; Doctorate preferred. Graduate-level coursework preferred in one or more of the following areas: Philosophy, Literature, Humanities, Art, or Music.

Experiential: Post-secondary teaching and distance learning experience strongly preferred. Related field experience highly desirable.

Other: Reliable transportation for travel within the service district required.

Starting Annual Salary Range: with a Master's degree $51,396 - $57,564; with a Master's degree + 30 GSH $53,151 - $59,529; with a Doctorate $56,395 - $63,162
