Overview
English Language and Literature (Combined PhD) at Istanbul Aydin University begins with advanced coursework that builds a strong foundation in literary studies and linguistics. Students study major periods of English and American literature, literary theory and criticism, comparative literature, cultural studies, discourse analysis, and advanced linguistics. These courses provide the theoretical and analytical background equivalent to a master’s degree.
As students advance, the curriculum transitions into doctoral level training focused on research methodology, academic writing, theoretical framework development, and advanced critical analysis. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches, scholarly debate, and the development of original academic perspectives. Doctoral candidates complete qualifying examinations before proceeding to the dissertation phase. The dissertation represents an original and substantial contribution to knowledge in English language and literature.
