English Language Instructor Position

Houston International Institute – Dalian Maritime University

The Houston International Institute (HII) at Dalian Maritime University (DMU) is seeking applications for English Language Instructor positions. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching academic English to engineering students.

Dalian Maritime University (DMU) is a prestigious Chinese university recognized under the national “Project 211” and “Double First-Class” University Plan. Situated in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian, in the southwest of China, DMU primarily conducts instruction in both Chinese and English.

HII represents a collaborative educational venture between Dalian Maritime University (DMU) and the University of Houston (UH). This institute integrates top-tier teaching resources from the Cullen College of Engineering at UH with DMU’s established strengths in marine-related academic programs. HII offers three undergraduate programs: Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. The Institute is dedicated to bolstering the national maritime powerhouse strategy through collaborative global education, fostering innovation, and building a strong brand. Its overarching goal is to cultivate innovative and talented maritime-focused engineers who can excel in any global market.

Responsibilities:

• Teaching academic listening, speaking, reading, and writing at various levels to prepare students for the Duolingo, TOEFL, or IELTS exams.
• Contributing to the development of curricula, assessments, and teaching materials to ensure high standards in English language education.
• Actively participating in department meetings and providing program support as required.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in TESOL, TEFL, linguistics, applied linguistics, or a related field.
• Ideally, a minimum of 3 years of experience teaching English at the college/university level.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: curriculum development, EAP (English for Academic Purposes), ESP (English for Specific Purposes) for STEM fields, assessment, teacher training, academic writing and communication, English medium instruction, and educational technology.
• Experience teaching abroad is highly desirable.
• For applicants holding a doctorate degree, evidence of research publications in the field of English language education is expected.

• Salary: The final salary will be determined by the university based on the candidate’s qualifications and years of experience.
• Housing: Accommodation is provided, consisting of an 80 m² apartment with two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bathroom.
• Housing Facilities: The apartment is equipped with a refrigerator, washing machine, TV, computer, crockery & cutlery, hotplate & rice cooker, bedding, and internet access.
• Air Fare: An international round-trip air ticket to the candidate’s hometown will be provided.
