Job Description

We are seeking a passionate Research Fellow (Grade 1) who will develop, coordinate, and contribute to the research projects of the laboratory in the fields of bacterial genomics and genetics, and bacterial surface polysaccharides.

Within this role you will work with Associate Professor Johanna Kenyon on a nationally competitive Australian Research Council Future Fellowship grant.

The Research Fellow will work within the Bacterial Polysaccharides Research Laboratory that employs both experimental laboratory and bioinformatics approaches to investigate the diversity and evolution of cell surface polysaccharides produced by important multi-drug resistant bacterial pathogens. The research fellow will work on blended projects involving both laboratory and bioinformatics components. You will be accountable for day-to-day operations including resourcing, scheduling, prioritisation, task coordination within a team context, as well as reporting and delivering objectives and deliverables within agreed time frames and budgets.

What we can offer

This is a fixed term (ending 31st July 2027), part-time position (0.6FTE) and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Salary Range

The full time equivalent base salary will be Academic Level RF1 with PhD range $95,845 - $99,367per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $112,138 - $116,259 per annum.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will also hold a PhD or equivalent in the field of molecular microbiology, bacterial genomics, or another relevant discipline. In addition to this, you will have:

  • Demonstrated skills in bacterial genomics, sequencing data, or bioinformatics, as well as laboratory skills in the areas of microbiology and molecular biology.
  • A strong research track record evidenced by first-authored publications in high quality journals, and conference presentations.
  • Experience working independently and in a team, with excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills. Experience in graduate student supervision is also desirable.
  • A high level of scientific literacy, as well as verbal and written communication.
