Organizational Unit Overview: The Department of Biology at East Carolina University is one of 16 academic departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences. The department supports ECU's teaching, research, and service missions, with over 1,300 undergraduate majors and instruction for more than 17,000 students annually. Faculty are engaged in research, generating approximately $2-3 million in new grant awards yearly. The Environmental Research Lab (ERL) supports water quality analysis.
Job Duties:
- 50% - Lab manager for the Environmental Research Lab: Oversight and training of personnel, managing the ERL budget, maintaining equipment, completing purchases, advising on methodologies, updating SOPs, quality assurance, invoicing, and performing analyses.
- 35% - Investigator on two long-term contracts with CZR and Nutrien: Training personnel, oversight of operations, reviewing data quality, and collaborating on project management, reports, presentations, and proposals.
- 15% - Manage BIOL 2251 (Ecology) instructional labs: Purchasing materials, setting up labs, managing Canvas site, updating lab manual, ensuring lab safety, training TAs, and assisting with field trips.
Minimum Education/Experience: PhD in Biology or related degree with water quality analyses experience; at least two years of experience processing samples for water quality assessment; valid driver's license.
License or Certification Required: Valid driver's license.
