Role Description

Department

We are looking for a highly motivated research project coordinator to join Dr Angela de Bruin’s research group in the Department of Psychology at the University of York. The project coordinator would be working on a project funded by the UKRI Frontier Research Guarantee Funding (for selected ERC starting grants), entitled “Lost For Words: Cognitive Ageing And Language Control In Bilingual Older Adults With And Without Cognitive Impairment”. The goal of the project is to understand how bilingual language use and language control (as used, for example, while switching languages) change with ageing. The project combines different methods to study the cognitive and neural mechanisms involved in bilingual production and comprehension. As part of the project, you will be working with older adults with mild cognitive impairment. The position is part-time (22.2 hpw) for 24 months. The start date is flexible, but preferably in October or November 2025.

We are specifically looking for a project coordinator who can communicate fluently in Pahari-Pothwari and/or Punjabi/Panjabi.

Role

Based at the University of York, you would build connections with multilingual communities, schedule appointments with potential participants, and facilitate participant testing. You will also help with preparation of study materials and transcription and translation of research data. You will be working with older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Ability to fluently communicate in English, Pahari-Pothwari, and/or Punjabi/Panjabi
  • Knowledge and experience of working with multilingual communities
  • Experience of working with older adults, preferably in healthcare related settings
  • Level 3 qualification.
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering work initiatives, interpreting and reporting information, communicating in verbal and written formats, and using digital technology
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others, deliver quality service, develop self and others, and actively champion respect, inclusivity, equality and diversity

Interview date: To be confirmed

For informal enquiries: please contact Dr Angela de Bruin on angela.debruin@york.ac.uk
