Offer Description
The Director of the Institute of Construction and Architecture of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, public research institution, announces a selection procedure for the position of Established Researcher (R3).
The successful candidate will conduct fundamental and applied research in the fields of chemistry, civil engineering and materials engineering. The position involves the creative solution of research and development tasks, including the implementation of research results in economic and societal practice, as well as research activities with outputs of fundamental importance for the development of the scientific field.
The successful candidate will also contribute to national and international research projects, the preparation of new grant proposals and the development of research activities in cooperation with research team members and partner institutions. Main duties and responsibilities:
- conducting fundamental and applied research in chemistry, civil engineering and materials engineering;
- preparation, characterisation and evaluation of materials and samples;
- processing, analysis and interpretation of experimental results;
- preparation of scientific publications and presentation of research results;
- participation in national and international research projects;
- preparation of new research and grant proposals;
- cooperation with members of the research team and partner institutions;
- supervision of university students and doctoral candidates;
- performance of other duties related to the research activities of the institute.
The position is offered as a full-time fixed-term employment contract until 31 December 2027, with an expected starting date of 1 October 2026. The minimum gross monthly base salary is EUR 1,569 for a full-time position. The final salary will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications, recognised professional experience and the applicable legal and internal regulations of the employer. A personal allowance and performance-related bonuses may also be awarded in accordance with the employer’s rules.

Skills/Qualifications
Education requirements: Third-cycle university degree (PhD or equivalent) in chemistry, civil engineering, materials engineering or a related field.
Professional requirements:
- professional knowledge in chemistry and materials engineering,
- experience with XRD, SEM, BET-N2 and TGA-DSC methods,
- demonstrated publication record in scientific journals,
- experience in the implementation or preparation of research projects,
- ability to independently design, conduct and evaluate experiments,
- English language proficiency at least at B2 level,
- computer literacy.

- ability to work independently as well as in a team,
- analytical and critical thinking,
- responsibility, thoroughness and reliability,
- professional communication and presentation skills,
- willingness to continuously develop professional competences.
The following will be considered an advantage:
- experience with operating analytical instruments,
- experience with the evaluation and interpretation of results,
- experience with the preparation of grant proposals.

Selection process
Applications must include:
- an application for participation in the selection procedure;
- a professional curriculum vitae in Europass format;
- a motivation letter;
- a copy of the document confirming the completed university education and academic degree;
- a list of publications;
- a list of citations and other scientific responses;
- a list of research projects in which the applicant has participated, specifying the applicant’s role in each project;
- a brief description of the applicant’s previous research activities and planned professional development, not exceeding two pages;
- consent to the processing of personal data. The selected candidate must submit an extract from the criminal record, not older than three months, no later than before entering into the employment relationship.

The selection procedure is expected to be completed on 28 September 2026.
