Purpose of the position
The purpose of the position is to conduct high-level research and development activities within the fields covered by the Chair of Land Management and Geodesy; to deliver and develop teaching in the relevant field; to supervise students at master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral levels as well as academic staff; and to contribute to the development of the Chair and the Institute, including the performance of organisational and administrative duties in accordance with the academic career regulations of the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Senate Regulation No 1-28/7 of 27 February 2020, amended by Regulation No. 1-28/1 of 18 February 2021; see also Appendix 2).

Skills/Qualifications
Minimum qualification
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification;
- Scientific and administrative competence, as well as extensive experience required for conducting and leading research and teaching activities;
- Experience in conducting scientific research and leading research groups, along with high-level academic publications in the field;
- International research visibility (including citation record and h-index in international databases);
- Experience in successfully applying for and managing research projects, including experience in leading competitive research grants (e.g. Estonian Research Council grants);
- Internationally recognised research in the field of land management or geodesy, or in closely related field, with a volume comparable to at least four doctoral theses;
- Systematic understanding of the core principles of land management or geodesy and their application in the context of spatial data and land use;
- Extensive teaching experience at the university level, including successful supervision of master’s students;
- Experience in supervising doctoral students and successful supervision outcomes;
- Active research and development activities in land management or geodesy or in closely related fields, taking into account the interrelations between these fields and the role of spatial data and spatial analysis;
- Willingness to contribute to a research-based approach to land use, spatial data, and spatial development, grounded in the disciplinary framework of land management and geodesy, and to support the integrated development of these fields;
- Experience in science communication and dissemination;
- Good cooperation and communication skills;
- Proficiency in Estonian and English.

To participate in the competition, candidates are required to submit the following documents by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee by September 15, 2026:
- an application to the Rector;
- a copy of the document certifying education and/or academic degree;
- CV (curriculum vitae) and a structured list of scientific publications of recent ten years, in the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS) standard format (up to ten significant publications from the earlier period may be included at will); information on academic work and in-service training done within five recent years shall be enclosed with the CV;
- the candidate for the position of Professor shall submit motivation letter reflecting the candidate’s vision about the development of this specific research field and related international cooperation in the university, and the measures that the candidate is going to take for increasing the level of research and teaching in the field (max 1500 words);
- Researcher ID / ORCID / Google Scholar reference;
- other relevant materials at the discretion of the applicant.
Application documents shall be submitted in Estonian or in English. The candidate for the position of a professor shall submit the application documents in Estonian and English. As an exception, application documents may be submitted in English only, if Estonian is not expected from the position holder. The documents shall be submitted in the written form by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee.
In case the applicant has obtained higher education in a foreign country, the University will ask for an assessment from the academic recognition information centre (Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre) on the conformity of the qualification of the applicant to the qualifications required in the position.
Candidates for the position of professor may be required to deliver a public lecture (venia legendi) or to submit a video recording of the public lecture. The director of the institute decides whether the candidate must deliver a public lecture.
