Offer Description
Main duties and job responsibilities
- the Professor of Animal Metabolism is responsible for carrying out international teaching, research, and development activities in the field of animal metabolism. The duties include supervision of student research at Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels;
- continuous development and updating of courses related to animal nutrition, including preparation of teaching materials and methodological resources;
- initiation, acquisition of funding for, management and successful implementation of research projects, including international projects;
- development of cooperation with other universities and research institutions;
- continuous professional development related to teaching, research and development activities;
- publication, dissemination and application of research results in cooperation with public and private sector partners;
- promotion of the discipline; organisation of seminars and conferences;
- consultancy for enterprises related to the field; and participation in internal and external decision-making bodies and committees of the institute and the university.

VL.0193 Animal Nutrition (5 ECTS, Estonian) / Animal Nutrition (5 ECTS, English) lectures and seminars for students of veterinary medicine.

- VL.1335 Nutrition physiology and metabolism (5 EAP, Estonian), metabolism module;
- VL.0656 Animal Nutrition (7 EAP, Estonian), lectures and seminars for students of animal science, if required;
- VL.0797 Basics of animal nutrition (6 EAP, Estonian) lectures and seminars for students of production and marketing of agricultural products, if required;
- VL.0193 Animal Nutrition (5 ECTS, English) practical classes for students of veterinary medicine, if required.
Workload: 1.0; teaching – up to 40%; research – at least 50%; other duties (in-service training, counselling, administrative tasks, etc.) – up to 10%.
Salary: starting from € 2,520 per month (gross)

Required qualifications
A doctoral degree in animal metabolism or an equivalent qualification in the field of animal nutrition.
Required knowledge and skills
- At least five years of documented scientific research experience in animal nutrition, preferably in the field of animal metabolism, including successful publication in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals, with a research output comparable to at least two doctoral dissertations;
- Experience in applying omics-based methods in the study of metabolism of farm animals;
- International research experience, preferably including at least two years of postdoctoral research;
- Experience as a reviewer for scientific journals;
- Proven experience in successful application for and management of research projects and contracts;
- Presentations at international scientific conferences;
- At least five years of documented teaching experience at university level;
- Supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral students;
- Public speaking skills, Venia legendi;
- Strong cooperation, communication, analytical and initiative skills;
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written. Applicants from outside Estonia are expected to acquire Estonian language proficiency at a minimum level of B2 within the first two years of employment.

Application documents
To participate in the competition, candidates are required to submit the following documents by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee by September 15, 2026:
- an application to the Rector;
- a copy of the document certifying education and/or academic degree;
- CV (curriculum vitae) and a structured list of scientific publications of recent ten years, in the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS) standard format (up to ten significant publications from the earlier period may be included at will); information on academic work and in-service training done within five recent years shall be enclosed with the CV;
- the candidate for the position of Professor shall submit motivation letter reflecting the candidate’s vision about the development of this specific research field and related international cooperation in the university, and the measures that the candidate is going to take for increasing the level of research and teaching in the field (max 1500 words);
- Researcher ID / ORCID / Google Scholar reference;
- other relevant materials at the discretion of the applicant.
Application documents shall be submitted in Estonian or in English. The candidate for the position of a professor shall submit the application documents in Estonian and English. As an exception, application documents may be submitted in English only, if Estonian is not expected from the position holder. The documents shall be submitted in the written form by e-mail to konkurss@emu.ee.
In case the applicant has obtained higher education in a foreign country, the University will ask for an assessment from the academic recognition information centre (Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre) on the conformity of the qualification of the applicant to the qualifications required in the position.
Candidates for the position of professor may be required to deliver a public lecture (venia legendi) or to submit a video recording of the public lecture. The director of the institute decides whether the candidate must deliver a public lecture.
