Position Overview

Position Title: Ethnic Studies Temporary Lecturer

Salary Range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $68,247–$83,936. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment.

Position Description

The Ethnic Studies Department at the University of California, San Diego is committed to building an excellent and diverse faculty, staff, and student body, and invites applicants whose experience has prepared them to contribute to this commitment.

The department is looking for lecturers with demonstrated teaching experience in related disciplines, ranging from race and social movements to cultural and media studies, to legal and science studies. Appointments will range from part-time to full-time and may be extended. Course loads will range from one course in one quarter up to nine courses over a full academic year, depending on the department's needs and the qualifications of the candidate. These details will be determined at the time of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Effective instruction of students
  • Teaching classes in accordance with course objectives and published schedules
  • Advising students on academic matters
  • Maintaining an active interest in advances and current thinking in the subject area

The position is in-person, and classes will be held on the UC San Diego campus.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required at Time of Application):

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or be ABD - All But Dissertation) in Ethnic Studies or a related field.

Additional Qualifications (Required at Time of Start):

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies (or a related discipline) at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing large classrooms (50-300 students).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Adherence to UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
