Position Summary: The Evaluation Specialist is an entry-level position in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with three primary areas of responsibility, first, to provide timely, accurate and detailed evaluation service of academic credentials for first-year and transfer students, as well as currently enrolled students; second, to serve as a vital member of the evaluation team to ensure the evaluation process functions in a smooth and timely fashion; and third, to support the overall functions of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in recruiting and enrolling an academically qualified, intellectually curious, and actively involved class of first-year and transfer students to the University of Georgia. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following; evaluate the academic credentials of first-year, transfer, and other applicants, check for completeness of application files; for first-year applicants, review high school transcripts for specific required courses and advanced coursework, compute grade point averages; for transfer applicants, compute grade point averages, and implement admission decisions based on the standards set by the Faculty Admissions Committee and the University administration; “articulate” transferable academic coursework from previous institutions using that institution’s course description and the UGA catalog, and post credit to the student’s permanent record either manually or through tools that automate the posting of this coursework (for example AIRR); update files when new academic credentials are submitted; review outsourced credential evaluations for applicants who have studied at a non-U.S. colleges or universities; maintain articulation database; assist with the processing of documents for special populations such as departmental credit changes, study abroad credit approval, military forms, transfer of advanced placement awards, athletics certification, residency/verification of lawful presence; participate in the holistic file reading of first-year applicants; research means to utilize resources and technology to improve admissions process; provide information to applicants, counselors, current students, parents, UGA Academic Advisors, graduation counselors, and Admissions professional staff.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: High level of attention to detail and accuracy; strong teamwork skills with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures: working computer knowledge of MS Office products, database systems and data entry. Attention to detail; accuracy; judgment; team work; math proficiency; familiarity with the Microsoft 365 suite of tools, database systems (UGA Banner Student Information System, Slate Admission Recruitment System, and OneOrigin AIRR).
