Evening Coordinator

The Evening Coordinator supports learning and student success by ensuring the continuity of library services into the evening hours and until closing time at midnight in the AU Learning Commons. This position supervises and directs student workers, coordinates library services and coverage in to the evening hours, makes decisions regarding the evening operations of the Learning Commons, and helps to guarantee a stable, welcoming, and secure environment for AU students in the Learning Commons. This is a new position to the Learning Commons: the incumbent will help the library move into and define its new space as well as help us to ultimately define this role. Core Competencies: 1. Supports learning through performance of essential job functions and performing other duties and functions as necessary or as assigned, including voluntary participation in university committees, activities and events. Works 4:00pm - 12:00am, M-R, and 8:30am - 5:00pm on Fridays during fall and spring semesters to ensure the continuity of library work, staff coverage, and library collaboration in the Learning Commons. Hours during breaks are 8:00 - 4:30, M-F. Facilitates relationships within a Learning Commons environment to ensure seamless delivery of services to students. Maintains general awareness of activities happening in Learning Commons across units/department and monitors environment for rising issues that will impact student use of the building. Maintains oversight of Learning Commons operations during evening hours. Responds appropriately to emergencies and security concerns in the building in the evening. Supervises student workers and directs their work, including assigning tasks, during evening shifts. Coordinates with Director and other library staff for supervision and direction of library student workers for other times of the day/week. Responsibilities include assisting with hiring, scheduling, training, and discipling student workers. Works with Director of the University Library to create main Student Worker schedule for fall and spring semesters and assists in finding coverage for absences. Nurtures the quality of the library spaces within the Learning Commons. Identifies and submits maintenance reports to resolve problems. Reviews and removes outdated nonlibrary flyers. Coordinates supply order lists. Provides high-quality reference and research support in-person, through online chat, and during research appointments. Stays up to date on relevant developments with information literacy and access, library collections, reference best practices, and course needs through department correspondence and consortia professional development. Assists in processing incoming borrowing and lending interlibrary loan requests using Tipasa. Supports equitable course material across campus by managing Course Reserves and supporting the Systems Librarian with eReserves services as needed. Supports the maintenance of LibGuides: Checking links, updating information, and enhancement projects. Creates new LibGuides, tutorials, and associated asynchronous resources in consultation with the Instructional Services Librarian. Elevates the digital accessibility of asynchronous library resources, including improving video captions, investigating ways to improve existing materials, and creating procedures for best practices when creating new resources. Attends weekly staff meetings to discuss and collaborate on library activity. Reports past and upcoming activities to director and staff and thoughtfully listens to the activities of other staff. Maintains high circulation items and monitors library hold shelf. Compiles usage statistics, analyzes data, and prepares reports in support of library goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Education: Bachelor's Degree required. LTA preferred with substantial academic library experience. Work towards MLIS or MLIS earned is highly preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in academic libraries required. Proficiency in database searching and research techniques required, preferably with experience across a range of academic fields. Experience with reference services in-person and online is required. Supervisory experience preferred. Experience in multiple types of libraries highly preferred.
