About the Organization

TechTown is Wayne State University’s entrepreneurship hub. We empower startups and local businesses throughout Wayne County by providing resources, collaborative workspace, and education for entrepreneurs that will further accelerate inclusive economic development throughout our city and county.

About the Opportunity

The Executive Coordinator & Board Liaison is a full-time role supporting TechTown’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Program Officer (CPO). This person keeps the Office of the CEO running smoothly, serves as Board Liaison to the Corporate Secretary on governance and board stewardship, and manages the organization-wide meeting calendar in partnership with Human Resources. It’s a great fit for someone who thrives in a nimble nonprofit, brings the polish to work alongside Wayne State University, and enjoys turning good ideas into clear presentations and simple systems.

The Impact You Will Make:

The successful candidate will model TechTown’s core values (inclusion, excellence, humanity, curiosity, accessibility, and collaboration) while bringing discipline and organization to the day-to-day work of leadership and the board.

Support the CEO and CPO day to day, including:

  • Manage calendars, correspondence, and priorities, including funder, donor, partner, and Wayne State commitments
  • Prepare executives for meetings with briefings and materials, and follow up on action items, including fundraising tasks with the Fund Development team
  • Represent the Office of the CEO with professionalism to staff, board members, university partners, and the community

Serve as Board Liaison, assisting the Corporate Secretary, including:

  • Coordinate board and committee meetings, from agendas and packets to logistics, attendance, and minutes
  • Maintain rosters, terms, conflict of interest forms, resolutions, and governance records in line with the Governance Operations Manual
  • Partner with Fund Development on board giving, engagement, and stewardship, including board participation in TechTown and Wayne State events
  • Support new board member onboarding

Manage the organization-wide meeting calendar, including:

  • Maintain the annual calendar of standing leadership, board, and all-staff meetings
  • Coordinate leadership meetings, all-staff meetings, and strategic planning sessions
  • Partner with Human Resources on org-wide events such as retreats and team member recognition
  • Create polished presentations and board materials, and recommend or build simple frameworks, templates, and trackers that help leadership work better
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in management of sensitive information and materials
  •  Other duties as assigned
Requirements:

What You Will Bring to the Table:

  • Experience as an executive assistant, executive coordinator, or project manager supporting senior leaders (or another role with similar responsibilities)
  • Experience supporting a board of directors, fundraising, or donor stewardship in a nonprofit setting
  • Comfort working in both a fast-moving nonprofit and a larger institution; familiarity with higher education or Wayne State University is a plus
  • Professional polish and sound judgment when working with executives, board members, and partners
  • Strong skills in Microsoft 365, especially PowerPoint, and willingness to learn new tools, including CRM and board portal systems
  • Clear written and verbal communication and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and work independently
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Passion for the nonprofit sector and commitment to the organization’s mission

The Perks:

TechTown offers generous health and dental plans, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, a 401(k) plan, and a team member assistance program. Full-time team members also receive:

  • 100% TechTown paid Life, STD, and LTD benefits
  • Wellness Inspired Workplace with a Wellness Program and onsite Wellness Room
  • 5 Weeks of paid time off per year
  • 23 paid holidays (including 2 weeks in December and 1 week in July)
  • 10 Paid Mental Health Days per year
  • $2500 Professional development stipend
  • Retirement plan with employer matching up to 6%.
  • Paid parental leave
  • Creativity and innovation supported and encouraged by leadership
  • Fulfillment and the knowledge of having made an impact in Detroit’s economic growth

Work Arrangements:

TechTown team members work a hybrid schedule with three in-office days each week. Because this role works closely with the C-suite, it is recommended to be in the office four days a week, putting you at the center of leadership conversations, board activity, and the relationships that drive our work. Your fourth day flexes around the calendar, such as board meetings, events, and leadership sessions, and you will always have the flexibility to work remotely when needed to keep your week balanced.

Accessibility:

At TechTown Detroit, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible environment, where all team members, clients, and tenants feel valued, respected and supported. We are dedicated to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities in which we live in and serve and creating an environment where everyone has the opportunity to reach their potential.
