Job Description

Columbia-Greene Community College located in Hudson, New York and nestled near the picturesque Olana State Historic Site is seeking an experienced, dynamic and resourceful administrator to join the leadership team as the Executive Dean of Teaching and Learning.

Reporting to the President, the Executive Dean of Teaching and Learning provides academic leadership of faculty, academic divisions, and the quality of teaching and learning across the institution. As the College’s Chief Academic Officer, the Executive Dean is the chief academic administrator for the College, working in collaboration with members of the Executive Leadership Team and stakeholders across campus, in the SUNY system, and among local businesses and industry partners. The Executive Dean of Teaching and Learning fosters a culture of student success. They will effectively communicate and build positive relationships with all areas of the College to advance institutional priorities. Provides guidance for innovative program changes, teaching and learning development, and the use of new technologies to enhance student experience and faculty development.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advises the President on academic affairs, faculty development, academic assessment, and teaching and learning.
  • Acts as Chief Academic Officer for the institution. Liaises with NYSED, SUNY, and other official institutions related to academic affairs.
  • Represents the College on external affinity groups related to one’s portfolio.
  • Provides leadership to the College’s faculty and assigned employees, including deans and division chairs. Oversees the work of academic divisions, guiding this work towards institutional priorities and student success.
  • Leads the development of new programs with faculty, division heads, and other stakeholders across campus, including credit and non-credit programs and courses. This also includes revitalizing program advisory boards and making intentional relationships with industry partners.
  • Ensures the curriculum meets current needs and standards of the industry and contemporary learners. Ensures continuous improvement and assessment of the General Curriculum.
  • Ensures program-level accreditations are current, planned for, and implemented.
  • Strengthens teaching and learning across the institution and takes a leadership role in the Center for Innovation, Teaching, and Learning.
  • Establishes an academic structure which enhances and evolves the academic work of the institution, is 'fit for purpose', and student-centered.
  • Continuously improves the quality and outcomes of programs, especially retention and completion rates.
  • Ensures academic assessment is leading program and faculty development, as well as financial and resource investment.
  • Responsible for the oversight of all academic spaces.
  • Leads intentional professional development and growth opportunities for faculty to ensure institutional and personal priorities and goals are met. This includes a firm response to emerging and new technologies and the needs of local industry.
  • Explores best practices to improve teaching and learning and promotes professional development and research.
  • Promotes the values of inclusion and belonging, civic engagement, and other SUNY values in curricula.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Division Chairs and maintains effective communication with all faculty and administrators.
  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, promotion, performance assessment, and retention of faculty based on established criteria developed in concert with Executive Leadership and faculty.
  • Authorizes faculty teaching loads and additional compensated duties.
  • Makes recommendations to the President with respect to course offerings, programs, pedagogies, and modalities that maintain the currency of the College and meet the rapidly developing needs of the communities served.
  • Works with the Enrollment Strategy Group and Workforce Development Office to develop market and demographic ready credit and non-credit courses, programs and pathways. Ensures microcredentials and other industry-recognized qualifications are integrated into the curriculum.
  • Ensures programs are transfer-ready, developing articulation agreements and pathways to other programs and institutions.
  • Works with the Policy and Compliance Officer to ensure academic policies are current and implemented. Works with the MSCHE Accreditation Liaison Officer to ensure the delivery of teaching and learning meets institutional accreditation standards.
  • Works with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness on a cycle of academic assessment and implementation.
  • Works with the shared governance structure for faculty and the institution to ensure decisions are made in consultation and with representative voice. Acts as liaison to the Faculty Association and oversees the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Coordinates the implementation of grants concerning academic affairs, and coordinates surveys and reports to SUNY, or other agencies, as needed.
  • Performs additional duties assigned by the President.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree in one of the College’s academic programs, higher education, or related field; terminal degree in a relevant discipline, higher education administration, related field highly preferred.
  • Community college experience preferred.
Salary and Benefits Information

Annual salary range $120-$130K, dependent on qualifications and experience. The College offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, voluntary life and vision programs, generous vacation, and sick leave, paid holidays, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, tax-deferred compensation, as well as employee and dependent tuition waivers.
