Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System and a historically Black university committed to academic excellence, innovation, and student success, invites applications for the position of Executive Director of the School of Aviation. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff, the Dean and Executive Director is responsible for the strategic growth, academic integrity, fiscal sustainability, and external visibility of the School of Aviation, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic priorities, including: 1. Description of Work
The Executive Director serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Aviation and provides visionary, strategic, and operational leadership to advance ECSU’s nationally recognized aviation programs. The role integrates academic leadership with executive-level oversight of flight operations, industry partnerships, regulatory compliance, fundraising, enrollment growth, and workforce alignment.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
- Earned doctorate in aviation, aerospace, engineering, business, higher education administration, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution (terminal degree required) with eight years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in aviation, aerospace, engineering, business, higher education administration, organizational leadership, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution with 10 years of directly related experience.
- Academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the rank of Professor.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in aviation education, aerospace operations, or a related executive role.
- Experience managing complex budgets and operational units.
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations and aviation compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning and partnership development.
