Job Summary:
Bucknell University invites applications for a strategic, visionary, and collaborative leader to serve as the Executive Director, Office of Global Education and Senior International Officer (SIO). Reporting to the Provost, this position plays a critical role in advancing Bucknell's global mission and strengthening international engagement across the institution.
As a key member of the Provost's leadership team, the Executive Director/SIO will provide campus-wide leadership for internationalization, overseeing the development of strategic partnerships and global learning opportunities. The Executive Director/SIO will work to connect the campus with the wider world through support for international student recruitment, study abroad opportunities, and global partnerships. The Executive Director/SIO is expected to work closely and collaboratively with faculty and staff to integrate global perspectives into the fabric of Bucknell's academic and social life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Bucknell's international strategy, guiding study abroad programs, global partnerships, and risk management
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and senior leaders to embed global learning into curriculum and campus life
- Provide strategic vision, establish guidelines and oversee international academic advising models, including the Complete Advising Model (CAM) and MAP/NMAP development
- Facilitate international research, faculty/student exchanges, and programs such as Fulbright and Gilman
- Serve on critical campus committees and coordinate with ISSS, Admissions, and the Provost's Office on global initiatives
- Provide leadership and management for the Office of Global Education (OGE); Oversee the Associate Director of OGE, delegating day-to-day operations and emergency response
- Engage with donors, alumni, and external partners to expand global resources and opportunities
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in International Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive responsibility in international education
- Demonstrated experience in supervising professional staff and managing complex budgets
- Proven track record in developing international partnerships and programs
- Experience with strategic planning and assessment in higher education
- Knowledge of risk management and international crisis response
- Knowledge of current trends in international education and best practices for comprehensive internationalization
- Strong intercultural competencies and global awareness
- Experience integrating internationalization into university curriculum and co-curriculum
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills
Preferred:
- Experience at a liberal arts institution, fundraising experience, and active networks within professional international education organizations (e.g., NAFSA, AIEA).
- Experience in internationalization of curriculum with faculty collaboration.
Working Conditions
Regular office hours with periodic international and domestic travel
Participation in evening and weekend events as needed
Ability to respond to international emergencies outside of normal business hours (at a strategic level, with operational response delegated to the Associate Director)
This position reports directly to the Provost and works collaboratively with deans, faculty, and staff across campus to advance Bucknell's global mission.

Salary Range: 102,850.00-145,200.00
The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
