EXECUTIVE EDUCATION | NGĀ KAUPAPA MĀTAURANGA WHAKAHAERE

Reimagine what Executive Education can be

As New Zealand’s oldest and most research-intensive university, the University of Otago is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world and attracts first-rate academics and students. Our graduates are known for their independence, creativity, and audacity of spirit — qualities that shape leaders across health, government, business, research, and beyond.

We are now seeking a bold and dynamic leader to help shape the next era of executive education at Otago.

Te mahi | The role

The Otago Business School is looking for an outstanding, future focused leader to reimagine, elevate, and expand our Executive Programmes portfolio — including the MBA, DBA, and Executive Education offerings.

This is a rare opportunity to take a strong institutional legacy and reposition it for the next decade of global executive learning. You will lead a strategic transformation that strengthens programme excellence, drives innovation, and ensures our offerings meet the needs of contemporary leaders in Aotearoa and globally.

Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor, Commerce, you will champion the enhancement and growth of Executive Programmes across multiple delivery modes — on campus, online, and through satellite locations, including a rapidly developing presence in Queenstown, one of New Zealand’s fastest growing executive education markets.

You will have the scope to think big, act decisively, and bring a revitalised vision to life. This is a role for someone energised by opportunity, motivated by impact, and inspired by the chance to build something exceptional.

Kā pūkeka me kā wheako | Your skills and experience

We are seeking a visionary, driven, and motivated leader — someone who thrives in environments where growth, innovation, and strategic repositioning are front and centre.

You will bring:
• Senior leadership experience with the ability to inspire, unify, and develop high performing teams.
• A strong record of strategic programme development, ideally in MBA or Executive Education settings.
• Demonstrated expertise in curriculum design, innovation, and market responsive programme delivery.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Well established industry connections and the credibility to develop new, high value partnerships.
• Experience working across international markets and engaging diverse student communities.
• Exceptional relationship and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.

Above all, you bring a mindset geared toward possibility and progress — and the drive to turn a compelling vision into educational impact.
