About NUS Museum

NUS Museum is the oldest university museum in Singapore. Its collections include Singaporean, Southeast Asian, Chinese and Indian materials including modern and contemporary art. It also manages the NUS Baba House, which facilitates research into architectural conservation, urban and social history, and cultural hybridity.

As a university museum, the NUS Museum prioritises direct, first-hand access to its collections for faculty, students and researchers for teaching, research, and study. The Faculty Engagement Unit is a sub-unit of the NUS Museum. It oversees the development and customisation of museum content for course-based engagements, which is the key to the Museum's continued relevance to NUS, as well as other Institutes of Higher Learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Partnerships Lead, the Executive / Senior Executive (Faculty Engagement) supports the Museum's academic engagement, curriculum integration, schools engagement, academic programming and publications across NUS Museum and Baba House. The role works closely with faculty, students, educators and Museum colleagues to strengthen the use of the Museum's collections and exhibitions for teaching, learning and research.

Academic Partnerships & Curriculum Integration

  • Coordinate University-wide educational initiatives involving the Museum, including the Visual Arts & Culture Second Major (FASS) and Lifelong Learning programmes (SCALE).
  • Promote the Museum's collections, exhibitions and faculty engagement initiatives as resources for teaching and research.
  • Build relationships with academic units and partners to identify opportunities for curriculum integration and sustained engagement.

Faculty Engagement & Collections Access

  • Work with faculty across NUS and external Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) to integrate museum- and object-centred learning into teaching, including course assignments, student projects and syllabus-mapped engagements.
  • Plan and manage course engagements, including faculty and internal coordination, and conduct in-gallery teaching and learning sessions at NUS Museum and Baba House.
  • Develop educational resources and learning guides to support teaching with the Museum's collections and exhibitions.
  • Coordinate object-viewing and research access requests with Collections Management, and provide basic object-handling support where appropriate.

Pre-Tertiary & Schools Engagement

  • Develop and deliver tailored school visits, guided tours and educational programmes for primary, secondary and pre-tertiary institutions.
  • Develop educational resources to support youth engagement with the Museum's collections and exhibitions.
  • Build relationships with educators and schools to develop sustained educational partnerships.

Academic Programming

  • Develop and deliver academic programmes and events, including talks, conferences, workshops, guest lectures and seminars.
  • Support the Curatorial Team in developing and delivering the NUS Museum Artist-in-Residence programme.
  • Coordinate programme planning, logistics, communications and documentation with internal and external stakeholders.

Publications & Institutional Reporting

  • Manage the editorial workflow and production of the NUS Museum Annual Report, including content planning, writing, editing, contributor coordination and timelines.
  • Support the writing, editing and production of academic reports, engagement briefs and other Museum publications.
  • Maintain records of academic and educational engagements for institutional reporting and evaluation.

Operational Support

  • Support cross-unit events, public programmes and Museum-wide outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate across Museum teams and undertake related responsibilities in support of Museum programmes and institutional priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in museum education, academic engagement, curriculum development, educational programming, writing, or a related field, with demonstrated ability to independently develop and deliver projects and programmes.
  • Bachelor's degree in Art History, History, Southeast Asian Studies, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, Education, Communications, Humanities, or a related discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary research methods and object-centred learning approaches.
  • Ability to translate complex academic scholarship and research into accessible and engaging pedagogical approaches for different educational levels and audiences.
  • Good understanding of university-level curriculum structures, course design and syllabus mapping.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and deliver projects independently, managing timelines and working with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with faculty members, researchers, students, educators and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Confident and engaging public speaker, with the ability to conduct gallery tours, deliver presentations, facilitate discussions and engage effectively with diverse museum audiences.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills, with experience developing educational, interpretive, communications and/or marketing materials.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Flexibility to work weekday evenings and weekends when required to support module engagements, academic workshops and museum programmes.
