Job Description

The function of the Academic Programmes Management Department (“APMD”) is to drive and facilitate initiatives to advance Academic Medicine (“AM”) across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre, to transform medicine and improve patients’ lives. As a member of the Office, the successful candidate will contribute to advancing SingHealth’s and the School’s strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Team Lead for Academic Programmes Support and Evaluation, under the oversight of the Director (Clinician Support), APMD, the successful candidate will form part of a core team to facilitate review and approval of AM grants and philanthropic funded projects in research, education, innovation and global health, as well as support the development and implementation of faculty/resident/student talent grants and awards.

The role involves planning, preparing, reviewing and approving AM funding requests and grant calls. To ensure strong financial stewardship and good corporate governance, the incumbent will need to be adept to SingHealth’s and Duke-NUS’s/NUS’ policies with regard to programme criteria, donations, disbursements and grant terms; and ensure rigorous and timely proposal review, monitoring of progress and outcomes reporting, financial reporting and proper stewardship of AM resources.

The successful candidate will be involved in the activities of the larger SingHealth and Duke-NUS community and could be assigned duties including special project and assignments, as a representative of the joint partnership to key stakeholders. The work responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: -

Management and Administration of ACP Programme Funding Grants

  • Review of application forms, funding guidelines, assessment criteria and grant variation/extension requests.
  • Facilitate, coordinate and provide inputs towards budget requests and review of proposals.
  • Facilitate the domain review session(s) with the review panel alongside the domain secretariat.

Management and Administration of AM Philanthropic Funded Grants

  • Review grant proposals for alignment with Donor’s Gift Purpose/Professorships and Academic Medicine strategic directions.
  • Serve as a liaison between JOAM and applicants in the budgeting, preparation of grant proposals and facilitation of presentation at relevant approval meetings if required.
  • Serve as an advisory role to stakeholders, advise on and facilitate grant variations/ extensions requests.

Student Initiative & Grants: SingHealth Medical Student Talent Development Awards

  • Forms part of the team that manages the SingHealth Medical Student Talent Development Award.

Agreements for Research Grants

  • Facilitate and support the review and signing of agreements e.g. Research Collaboration Agreement (RCA) between Duke-NUS faculty and collaborators from the industry or Duke University. This is done through working with Duke-NUS faculty, administrators, Research Office(s), Duke-NUS Contracts and Industry Engagement Department and representative(s) from Duke University.

Others Ad hoc duties as assigned

  • Serve as Secretariat for AM committees and meetings when necessary.
  • Assist with the overall administrative management of a variety of business-related functions.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of departmental events and projects.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein or as assigned by the supervisor.
