Extension Instructional Designer
Position Summary
The UGA Extension Instructional Designer plays a key role in advancing CAES’s strategic goals for online learning by supporting faculty in the design and delivery of high-quality, accessible online courses. This position will assist Extension with designing and delivering training sessions; work one-on-one with faculty to assist with designing their online courses and consult on course design and implementation issues, incorporating best practices and theories of online curriculum and course design. This position reports to the Staff and Organizational Development Specialist in the Extension Office of Learning and Organizational Development. This position is full-time and home based on the Athens Campus.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

- Familiarity with curriculum and course development

- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, Trello)
- Experience with a variety of technology tools (e.g., Articulate, Canvas, ElevenLab, Vyond, and WeVideo)
- Demonstrates and utilizes effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills
Duties/Responsibilities
Design and Development (60%)
- Support the design and development of online programs in collaboration with faculty and the Extension Staff Development Specialist
- Apply instructional design theory, research, and emerging technologies to create effective online learning experiences
- Design and develop instructional materials aligned with measurable learning objectives
- Support the design and development of online certificate programs in collaboration with faculty and the Director
- Create formative and summative assessments to measure student achievement
- Collect and organize course-level data to support quality assurance and continuous improvement
- Identify and respond to ethical and legal implications of instructional design
Planning and Analysis (15%)
- Conduct needs assessments to recommend appropriate instructional design strategies
- Analyze course alignment and recommend improvements to enhance instructional clarity and coherence
- Define the scope of instructional design projects based on desired outcomes
- Use data to revise and improve curricula, materials, and learning strategies
Project Management (15%)
- Define project scope and goals in alignment with instructional design needs
- Create and maintain implementation plans for design and revision projects
- Apply an instructional design process appropriate to the project scope
- Manage multiple concurrent instructional design projects, ensuring on-time delivery of high quality outcomes
Support (5%)
- Provide consultation for instructional and technical challenges as needed
- Assist with troubleshooting web-based learning technologies for online courses
Research (5%)
- Stay current with evolving instructional design practices, technologies, and accessibility standards through ongoing professional development
