Position Highlights

This position is the Community Outreach Professional II for the Ag-Ventures 4-H program based at the Maricopa Agricultural Center (MAC). This program does direct teaching to elementary school students that visit the Ag Ventures program at MAC farm, as well as supporting general 4-H STEM and agriculture programming. In addition, instruction takes place at elementary schools in classrooms throughout Pinal County. The position works alongside other part-time instructors and volunteers, and ensures classrooms and materials are kept in good working order.

This position will require some evening and weekend work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Working with the 4-H Agent, develop and implement an annual marketing strategy to attract returning and new schools to the program.
  • Work with contacts at schools to schedule groups coming to MAC as well as programs to be delivered to schools.
  • Processing invoices and follow up on payments.
  • Working with the 4-H Agent, develop curricula on various Ag Literacy topics and identify how the lessons support the State Academic Standards.
  • Work with the Agent to train part-time staff to conduct lessons and is the lead instructor delivering the Ag-Venture and STEM curricula.
  • Working with the 4-H Agent, develop appropriate evaluation tools to measure program outcomes; ensure that the evaluation plan is implemented and conduct the data entry.
  • Support assigned 4-H Youth Development program committees, coordinate the use of the Maker Space and Ag Ventures classrooms, and supports 4-H STEM programming.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with school contacts, teachers, volunteer 4-H leaders, parents, MAC farm staff, and youth ages 4 to 18.
  • Skill in public speaking and presenting complex agricultural concepts in a manner appropriate to audience of different ages.
  • Possess classroom management skills for groups as small as five people and as large as 40 people.
  • Skill with Microsoft software applications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Experience working with youth, the public, and volunteers.
